BookSource is one of Britain's fastest growing book distributors. It supplies books and other products to both the retail trade and general public throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
History
The company was founded in 1995 by the Scottish Publishers Association (now Publishing Scotland) to set up an urgently-needed part of the publishing infrastructure in Scotland.
Ownership
The majority of the company is owned by Publishing Scotland (90%) with the remainder of the shares being held by five client publishers. This set up allows for a greater amount of investment in its resources and, because the owners of the company are clients, its focus is always on service. Through this shareholding model, service should always be a priority.
Management
The company is managed by a Board that comprises publishing professionals with a range of expertise. Two of the Non-Executive positions are filled by members of the Board of Publishing Scotland, which not only reflects its majority ownership, but also ensures that the company is always mindful of the pressures that small presses face on a day to day basis. BookSource has also set up a Trust Account to safeguard money owing to publisher clients, ensuring that risks are minimised.
